Campaigns Altered by the Pandemic

It's time to talk about social media campaigns. Launching a campaign involves many steps. You must establish goals, choose a type of campaign, determine a target audience, figure out your budget and follow other steps to ensure your campaign goes smoothly and yields your desired results. In chapter 13 of Essentials of Social Media Marketing, the authors discuss various social media marketing campaign success stories. For example, Dove created the #NoDigitalDistortion campaign to bring attention to the vast amount of people who photoshop their images. They also used this campaign to show that their company only uses real, unedited images. Other companies who have created incredible and successful campaigns are Starbucks, Cadbury, Oreo and Disney. You need to have phenomenal employees in social media to create successful campaigns. Even small companies should have at least one employee working in social media. Social media is not going away anytime soon and neither is social media marketing.

Chapter 13 also discusses the effects COVID-19 has had on social media marketing. As everywhere closed, companies had to find new ways to promote and sell their products. After two years of being stuck inside, wearing masks and closed businesses, firms finally began to open up again. Since the pandemic is over, companies have had to adjust their budgets, marketing strategies, target audiences, goals and more. It is crazy how much the pandemic affected businesses. Social media marketing skyrocketed and hybrid work and learning became a norm. It will be intriguing to see how firms continue to utilize social media over the next five to ten years and see how social media marketing evolves.

Although COVID-19 was a weird, crazy time for me and many others, I believe it forced businesses to evolve with technology. It has helped businesses see how beneficial and profitable the use of social media can be. It helped businesses understand that their employees do not always need to be in the office. It also brought a lot of amazing, innovative campaigns. I am a marketing major so it's my duty to be in the loop with social media marketing. I have loved watching huge companies build their social media presence over the past few years and I am excited to contribute to my future career. I hope to bring innovative and creative ideas to the table and I am giddy with excitement to graduate with a degree in marketing.
