Instagram Finstagram

    How many of you has created a "finsta" account? Are you too old or young for "finstas"? My middle school and high school years were the prime years to have one of these accounts. A "finsta" was kind of like a private Snapchat story. You only followed other peoples' "finstas" and you only posted bizarre things that you would not normally post on your main social media accounts. 

    These accounts were popular on the social media platform, Instagram. According to Essentials of Social Media Marketing, Instagram is an "easy-to-use app that centered around photos". The platform was founded in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and was purchased by Facebook in 2012. Today, Instagram has over 1.45 billion monthly users and consists of primary young users. Surprisingly, 90% of users follow business accounts, which is encouraging to hear for the business majors reading this blog. I am a marketing major so I love hearing that so many people follow businesses! 

    Personally, I have never run a business account on Instagram, However, this type of account has many features that a personal account does not have. The professional dashboard shows analytics insights, account performance and promotions. My favorite aspect of Instagram is the ability to edit photos. Not only does the platform give the user various filters, but individuals can utilize photo editing features to adjust the brightness, saturation, shadows, sharpness and more. My artistic self absolutely adores this aspect of Instagram. I also love being able to post 24 hours stories with pictures, music or quotes. I recently posted my first Instagram reel, which is a video with dozens of pictures combined and set to a song. 

    Although I love Instagram because it is a more creative platform and it is more geared towards my generation, I definitely use Facebook more often. I prefer Facebook because I am more accustomed to Facebook Marketplace and I can stay in contact with my extended family. At the moment I am only following 62 individuals on my main account and I am following an additional 26 people on my puppy's account.
