"Tweet Tweet" an epic, new podcast is in town!
What is Twitter? I'm just kidding. I really hope you at least know that Twitter is a social media platform. If you do not know anything else about it, do not be ashamed. Before today, I could not have told you a single fact about Twitter. However, this is not surprising for our generation. Nearly 60% of users are between the ages of 25 and 49 years old. Personally, I have never used or downloaded the platform. In my podcast, I go over everything needed to know about the platform.
In the podcast, I discuss the demographics of users, the history, and other relevant facts and statistics. According to a Pew Research Center study, over 11,500 journalists stated Twitter is their most-used social media platform. Another statistic by the center verifies that Facebook is the most used social media for reading the news. However, we do not care about the news, and we do not care about Facebook. The purpose of my podcast is to inform you of Twitter, its beginning, purpose, who uses it, why they use it, and how often they use it.
When was Twitter created? CNBC states that the first Tweet was sent in 2006, but it did not become a public platform until 2013. In 2022, Elon Musk bought Twitter for forty-four million dollars. Today, Twitter has nearly 400 million users and 206 million of those users utilize Twitter daily. 73 million of those users live in the United States, and another 55 million live in Japan. 68% of users are male and 32% are female.
As of 2021, the most followed accounts on Twitter were Barack Obama, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Christian Ronaldo, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Ellen DeGeneres, and YouTube. You also likely remember when Donald Trump was a trending name on Twitter. In May 2021, Trump was banned from Twitter and Facebook for encouraging and enticing violence. Then, in November 2022, Elon Musk stated that he would allow Trump to have Twitter again. What is Twitter used for? Twitter is similar to other social media platforms; it is used for communicating with friends, family, and fans. People can "tweet", which includes sending a message, posting a picture, posting a video, or "retweeting" other peoples' posts. Surprisingly, individuals who utilize Twitter only spend an average of six minutes a day scrolling or posting on the platform.
Finally, in the podcast, I elaborate on the issues with social media. Click the link and listen to my podcast to hear exclusive podcast content and learn more about social media platforms.
